How safe is the E-Cigarette? Sometimes I feel a bit like a bit of a guinea pig as I fiendishly puff away on my E Cigarette. I mean, how much research has actually been done on the substances released when the nicotine liquid is atomised? I comfort myself with a quick glance at the short ingredient list on my beloved cherry flavored E liquid and bury my head in the sand once again, realising that its got to be less harmful than the shit I used to inhale when sucking in a burning tobacco stick…haha. In all seriousness though, its important that research is carried out to discover any negative health effects that might occur from our new habit. Its no use convincing ourselves that just because E Cigarettes are less harmful than tobacco products that we no longer have to think about their safety. Its my great hope that E Cigarettes are going to be with us for a long time, I love my DSE901 and I’m not ready to give it up, but if we want E Cigarettes to be accepted by society as a whole we need to be able to prove that the product is safe. Governments are making a killing from the sale of tobacco products and are eventually going to try find an excuse to ban the sale of E smokes. Lets make it as hard as we can for them to find that excuse by either proving E Cigs are absolutely safe or, if required, develop some that are. On that note, here’s a little bit of research that was carried out in New Zealand that looks like a promising start. Learning to live without nicotine. If you’re a smoker I don’t need to tell you how difficult it is to kick the nasty habit. Everyone I talk to about smoking cessation seems to have their own beliefs about the best way to go about things. For me, traditional nicotine replacement therapy, hypnosis and “Stop Smoking” books only prolonged the agony before my willpower collapsed and I became a smoker once again. The smoking ritual that had become an integral part of my life was something I just couldn’t stand to lose. Going to the newsagents to buy my supplies, rolling the perfect cigarette, lighting up and spending five minutes of quality time with smoking friends, how do you give up an activity that seems to define who you are. Never mind the fact that the your beloved tobacco products contain one of the most addictive compounds known to man. For me, the mind is the battleground where your fight against nicotine really takes place, the physical addiction is really a secondary consideration. On the one hand we hate the fact that our habit is shortening our life and on the other we are experts at putting all the health worries associated with our habit to the back of our minds. We foolishly convince ourselves that either, “It’ll never happen to me”, or that we will give up smoking at some point in the future before the health problems start to manifest themselves. As long as we don’t have to confront the nicotine monster until tomorrow, life is good. I’m still struggling with these issues if truth be told. However, slowly but surely I’m coming to terms with the fact that I won’t be a smoker forever, and being a non-smoker isn’t going to result in some bizarre mutation of my personality. I’ll still be the same person. My fiends will still see me as the same person. The transformation from one person to another is only happening in my head. UK’s 5 News has a segment on the E Cigarette
This news article was aired in the UK back in the beginning of the year. The E Cig got a bit of a mixed review from the smokers who tried it, though I reckon they never gave it a fair go. The product tested was the Gamucci electronic cigarette, which in my opinion is far too big for use in public. I’d feel like a crazy fool standing at the bar taking a draw on that bad boy. The Gamucci also doesn’t have much of a reputation amongst hard core online E Smokers as its seems over priced with similar or lower quality to many of the generic items available on the market. My recommendation is to go for a mini E Cigarette and try out a few flavours till you find one you like. Hands up if you don’t like E-Cigarettes
It seems amazing to me, a self-confessed e cigarette addict, that some strange individuals don’t appreciate the technological wonder that is the electronic nicotine delivery system. A friend of mine is currently attempting to give up the fags with the help of the e cig but finding that they don’t have the taste of the cigarette that he’s looking for. I don’t know about you, but for me the rancid taste of burning tobacco and ashtray breath are the last things I’m looking for when trying to satisfy my craving. Give me a choice of smooth, cherry flavored atomised nicotine or a draw on a malboro and I’ll choose my favourite fruity delights all day long. Anyway, he’s been tobacco free for over 2 weeks now and is bravely resisting the lure of his favourite smokes. When I spoke to him last night he promised to persevere as long as it takes to beat the ciggies. I’ll let you know how he goes.
E-Cigarettes are expensive?
I’ve heard a few people in online forums complain about the cost of smoking e cigarettes. Are these people serious? When I sat down and worked it out I realized that in days gone by I was spending over £1800 a year on my pack a day nicotine habit, and that doesn’t take into account the weekend nights when I would smoke a bazillion ciggies to accompany my vast alcohol consumption. In contrast, vaping roughly 4 cartridges a days, E Cigarettes are currently costing me a maximum of £700 year. These costs can be reduced drastically by purchasing cartridges in bulk or by replacing cartridges with some tasty e-liquid. So there, E Smoking is cheaper than your cigarettes and it probably won’t kill you, what’s your excuse now? Will e-Cigarettes Revolutionize Smoking?
A nice long E Cigarette Article discussing the possibility that the E Cigarette might be a great aid to smoking cessation. The author is currently giving up smoking and reckons the option of using an e cig if the cravings get too strong could help her stay off the real thing. Also has this youtube video showing the E Cigarette in action. Smoking ban creates new problems
An article which mentions E Cigarettes posted in an obscure newspaper from Iowa which calls itself “The West Branch Times”. Talks about how E Cigarette sales have risen since the introduction of yet another smoking ban. The more we see story’s about E Cigarettes in print the better as for as I’m concerned. As people become aware of these products I think we’ll see an inevitable move from traditional cigarettes which can only be a good thing for everyone’s health.
